One of the biggest names in the world of professional services has launched a brand new modelling team producing a unique service offering for which there is currently no equivalent in existence. This consists of advisory services relating to Credit Portfolio Modelling for the financial sector, truly a Greenfield situation! They now require someone with extensive commercial C++, SQL and RDB experience to maintain a large database of market data and derived data. This is a database-orientated job that additionally requires strong C++ skills.

The following experience and attributes are essential for this role:
• An Honours degree in a mathematical subject, i.e. mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, physics or engineering
• A minimum of 4 years of full-time, commercial experience in C++ including all of STL, CRT in C, DLL and XLL
• A minimum of 4 years of full-time, commercial experience in SQL with either SQL Server, Oracle or Sybase
• Experience in ODBC, OCI, JDBC or other API
• Experience in SQL Script language such as Transact SQL, PL/SQL or embedded Java

The role is essentially 60% maintenance (bug fixing, diagnosis, improvements) and 40% development, including joint development with Quants. You will be reporting to an I.T./Quant Manager and working with a small team of Quants, so if your background is at all Quantitative, you’ll fit in here very well! Your tasks will include, but not be limited to: Application development in conjunction with the Quant team to produce and store derived data, develop new methods for cleansing market data, maintaining & improving database performance and interfacing & communicating with DBAs in the I.T. team,

The opportunity here is to build a team to take over parts of your job function as you progress to a more supervisory role. These databases will need to be implemented at client sites which is too much work for one person, so build a team to do so! Your manager in this role is rewarding to work for as he encourages initiative and rewards good work! The same applies to the wider firm in general, encouraging employees to attend training and conferences. This is a unique product offering in cutting-edge technologies. Consequently, the team have been hugely successful so far, are already far ahead of target even in these early stages and are experiencing a huge demand for their services. If you contribute to their success, the team will need to continue to grow quickly and expand globally. The team is being promoted worldwide, so there is the opportunity for travel and secondment beyond London.
