Temporary Van Driver/ Sales Development Worker Ref: BIS/TVD

This post offers an exciting opportunity to work within one of the most innovative and successful self-help initiatives for homeless people.
Using a company vehicle, you will be responsible for distributing magazines to Big Issue vendors in the Aberdeen/ Dundee areas and encouraging vendors to maximise their sales and personal potential, whilst promoting the support services available.
Your role will include cash-handling and reconciliation as well as magazine stock control and ensuring sales targets are met. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative, have excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure. You will be actively recruiting new vendors, administering pitches and promoting good relations with the general public, including ensuring the vendor Code of Conduct is adhered to. You will be liasing with local councils, police, homeless organisations and other relevant local bodies, to build relationships and develop selling opportunities for vendors.
It is essential for applicants to have a Full Clean UK Driving Licence and be based in the region of Aberdeen or Dundee. Experience of cash-handling with the ability to keep accurate and detailed records is vital and an understanding of the practical and emotional needs of homeless people, a good sense of humour and a flexible approach is also a critical. A commitment to the social objectives of The Big Issue is essential.
