Job Description

Title: Trade Development Programme Intern

The Hutong School organizes internships in combination with Chinese classes for students, graduates and young professionals who want to gain working and living experience in China. We will organize an internship at a local or international company in Beijing, provide accommodation and teach you Chinese.

Our services include:

For our client we are currently looking for an intern for the following position:

Marketing Assistant

Starting date: December 2008

Length: 2 -3 months

Location: Beijing

Internship description:
1. Review and revise some English versions of bamboo product standards.
2. Help develop the online standards database.
3. Prepare analysis papers on relevant subjects.
4. Provide other trade-related assistance to the programme..

Requirements:
1. Post graduate with some knowledge of forestry products, economics, regulations and laws or related areas
2. English as his or her native language or native fluency second language

Company description:
The company is an intergovernmental organization with the mandate “To improve the wellbeing of the producers and users of bamboo and rattan”. They currently have 34 member countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America, plus Canada, and run development projects in many of these. They are funded by key grants from the governments of China, Canada and the Netherlands, and by UN-IFAD, and by project grants from donors such as DfID, the EU and Common Fund for Commodities.

The main activities of this company are running rural and sectoral development projects, training and technology transfer, and environmental amelioration projects with bamboo and rattan. They also do work to support the global bamboo and rattan sectors, such as the development of standards and codes for bamboo products, developing improved trade reporting systems, and development of databases on such diverse subjects as global bamboo and rattan resources, and bamboo and rattan technologies suitable for gender-equitable development.
