Job Description

THE COMPANY AND SITUATION:

The Local Government practice of one of the top accountancy firms in the UK is currently experiencing an unprecedented demand for its services. Consequently, they now need those with experience of either working for, or consulting to, Local Government.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

The following skills and attributes are essential in order to be eligible for this role:

EITHER:

A minimum of 2 years commercial experience working in an advisory capacity for a consulting firm with Local Government as your client, consulting on either Human Resources, Procurement or Accountancy/Finance

OR:

• Qualified Accountant, either CIPFA or ACA
• PFI experience
• A minimum of 2 years commercial experience working in either Procurement or Accountancy/Finance in Local Government

PLUS:

• A degree
• An understanding of the “Local Government Language” and able to speak it with Council employees
• Flexibility: A “can do, will do” attitude regarding location and nature of work

THE ROLE:

The crux of the work here would be on client sites in such areas as planning, change management, organisational design, evaluating efficiency issues and procurement issues. Additionally there would some background research and proposal writing, bid preparation and delivering services to Councils.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

If you are currently working in Local Government, this is a far more varied situation – different roles, different clients. If you are currently already in an advisory firm, this is an opportunity to develop your career with one of the largest consultancy firms in the UK, that currently has a specific focus on Local Government and is looking to develop people internally.

The next step here career-wise is to move up to Assistant Director level and in the longer term, Partner. This is a busy and growing part of the firm at present and there is no reason why a competent person would not make Partner, develop their career in the long-term and develop their own business.
